Registration opens for Swedish Organic Meal Chef of the Year 2024

Registration is now open for the competition Swedish Organic Snack Chef of the Year 2024 (formerly the Little Organic Snack Battle) – the competition that crowns Sweden’s best organic public snack chef! (Please note that registration for 2024 is closed.)

Swedish Organic Snack Chef of the Year highlights the importance of snacks and is open to all public kitchens, both within municipalities and regions, that prepare snacks as part of their operations. By putting the spotlight on snacks, chefs and kitchens are inspired to create nutrient-dense, organic, and sustainable recipes.

“It feels significant to participate in a competition where snacks are also highlighted as an important meal during the children’s day in preschool. Our vision is that the children should have a balanced, nutritious, and filling meal moment, regardless of which meal it is,” says Ida Carlsson (2023 winner).

New for Swedish Organic Snack Chef of the Year 2024

As an exciting new feature this year, we are introducing a secret box of ingredients that the finalists must use in their dishes. The focus will also be on using local ingredients, reducing food waste, and ensuring effective resource and energy use. These new elements will challenge the chefs to think even more creatively and sustainably, and we look forward to seeing the innovative solutions that will be presented.

Registration is open until August 30, and the final will take place on October 9 at the Nordic Organic Food Fair.

Previous winners include Malin Olsson from Närbogården Preschool in Gävle (2022) and Ida Carlsson from Norlandia Preschools, Basilikan in Örebro (2023). “My advice to this year’s chefs is to come up with a foundation of ingredients that you know are available, so you can stand strong on that. Have fun and enjoy the competition!” says Malin Olsson (2022 winner).

In addition to a professional competition jury (which will be revealed after the summer), the final will also be judged by a distinguished children’s jury. “I was impressed by the children’s jury and their insightful questions, inspiring conversations, and honest evaluations,” says Ida Carlsson (2023 winner).

About the Swedish Organic Snack Chef of the Year Competition

For the third consecutive year, Nordic Organic Food Fair and Ekomatcentrum are organizing the Swedish Organic Snack Chef of the Year competition at Kistamässan on October 9 at 1:00 PM. The competition is open to all public chefs in Sweden. The winner will be crowned at the gala dinner during Möjligheternas Framtid 2024.
