How Do We Reach Our Climate Goals?!
It’s not just Sweden’s Minister for Climate who’s thinking about this today — hundreds of major companies across Sweden and the world have also signed up to ambitious climate targets in recent years, all hoping to help achieve the 1.5°C goal.
But the problem is — how on earth are we going to get there?
Especially in the food industry, where large grocery chains and food producers are struggling with the fact that consumers simply don’t seem willing to change their eating habits.
How can they lower their climate footprint when consumers aren’t interested in eating less meat and dairy — and when both chefs and producers find it difficult and uninspiring to cook sustainable food?
Unfortunately, we’re now seeing signs that more and more companies are beginning to loosen their grip on those ambitious 2030 goals, questioning whether they might have been a bit too ambitious when they were set before the pandemic. Meanwhile, consumers are increasingly turning back toward meat and the big, hearty meals — rather than the “boring” sustainable ones.
So — what do we do about this?!
That’s exactly what I’ll be talking about at the Nordic Organic Expo in Malmö on November 19, one of Sweden’s largest fairs for sustainable, natural, and organic food products. I’ll be challenging these major buyers and producers not only to maintain their ambitions — but to raise them where possible — and I’ll share my thoughts on how we can actually reach these goals together, and beyond.
